It’s tough out here. The streets are rough and people can be selfish. How do you protect yourself from constant heartbreak?
In light of Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson’s breakup, here are a few ways you may want to consider as you navigate relationships and heartbreak that usually comes with it.
**You love each other, yes. But your life doesn’t have to revolve around each other. Your essence shouldn’t be determined by who loves or leaves you. Ground yourself in values and principles that keep you rooted even when humans fail.
**Understand that you cannot control how people feel. People may change towards you. It is not fair, but it happens. When you know how life works, you will learn to insure your heart from issues that might break you. This does not mean you can’t trust, but do not be blind to cues that can save you.
**Allow yourself feel the pain of the breakup. Let it out. It is easier to move on if you don’t deny yourself the phase of grieving. Grieve and recover and re-align.
**Do not romanticize the relationship. Do not idealize it to a point where it seems like the best thing ever created. It is not. It is over. Balance your perspective with the fact that the relationship was just as flawed as everything else on earth and it came with it’s own issues. Because if it didn’t, you wouldn’t have spilt, anyway.
**After a breakup and after grieving the loss of the love you had, start afresh. Be true to your healing process. Delete any picture, messages or memory that drags you back to the place of pain and regret. It is time to rise.
**Lean on your community for strength and support. Rely on a solid circle of friends or family to help you through the phase.
**There’s the temptation to think the world has ended to the point where you refuse to leave your bed and pay attention to yourself. The opposite is always better. Heartbreak? OK. Its time to heal, get moving and be twice as amazing as you were before.

**Do not rush into another relationship. Do not invest in a rebound. Give it time. Use the moment to get to know yourself and love yourself. You got this!
